The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness

Fleeing before a relentless army, Todd has carried a desperately wounded Viola right into the hands of their worst enemy, Mayor Prentiss.

Immediately separated from Viola, Todd finds that everything is shrouded in secrets. And then one day, the bombs start to explode….

Yea so I thought it couldn’t get any better than the Knife of Never Letting Go. The first book is usually better than the second right? Wrong. I was so so wrong.

I felt that the beginning-ish middle was boring but it was worth it. Oh my goodness it was so boring to me. Even the Answer attacking was kind of boring because it kept repeating. Yea, there’s bombs and stuff what else is new?

Haha…how about a bomb right in the face of Viola and Todd?

Speaking of Todd, he goes through a lot of changes and character development. He actually goes along with this life of…working with the guy who shot his dear Viola. And for some reason…I wasn’t….surprised?? I wasn’t thinking, “No TODD YOU IDIOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?” I was sort of entranced like Todd was.

He was so emotionless and absent minded but at the same time, he was. He knew he was causing Spackle and women pain but he wasn’t rebelling against it. And I felt totally fine and not screaming “OH MY GOD”

This is how good Patrick Ness’ writing is. “I am the Circle and the Circle is me.” I believed that. It sounded so convincing and it was said by Todd in his Noise over and over again.

I only actually realized what Todd was actually doing when Viola came to rescue him. As he was waking up to reality, I was too. This is why I love their relationship. They trust each other and would do anything. She woke HIM up.

WAIT OKAY I JUST REMEMBERED MISTRESS COYLE OR WHATEVER HER NAME IS. That little manipulative biscuit. HOW is she so sure about what way Viola would react? WHY DOES VIOLA TRUST THE THINGS SHE SAYS?! ANYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF HER MOUTH IS A LIE. LIEEESSSSS.

The plot is great and SO MANY FREAKING PLOT TWIST. SO MANY. SO SO MANY. Most of them cause by that stupid little Coyle. NOT TO MENTION MAYOR LEDGER. What the heck man? He was sort of fishy but I didn’t expect anything out of him

WRITING IS AMAZING.

EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE MIDDLE PART WAS AMAZING. READ IT IF YOU WANT TO BE EMOTIONALLY DAMAGED. READ IT AND DON’T TRUST ANYONE. YOU CAN’T EVEN TRUST YOURSELF.

(See guys I was trying to act professional in this review but it kind of went downhill)
