Three Times Lucky
Mo LoBeau considers herself lucky. As an infant, she got separated from her Upstream Mother by a hurricane that whirled by. Luckily, she got found by the Colonel and now lives with him and Miss Lana.
Her life was normal enough until a detective comes by investigating a murder. Things become even worse when a murder also occurs at Mo’s town, the Colonel goes missing and Miss Lana gets kidnapped by somebody. The only way is to give the kidnapper the ransom he wants, or to find him.
This isn’t the typical book you would pick up, but I liked this book and it kept me interested enough.
Mo here is kind of like Clary Fray from the Mortal Instruments. She doesn’t like missing out, she cares for her adoptive parents and friends and she’s willing to take risks.
Dale is also a good character. He’s really…goofy(?) and just really weirrddd…?
I don’t really know what to say about the characters, but the plot I know I have something to say. It’s kind of unrealistic. An infant surviving a hurricane, the Colonel crashing his car and then finding her? Not likely. Also, what kind of adult would allow a kid to be part of an investigation?
Then again, this is a book and books can do whatever they want to.
Throughout this book, the mood would be pretty much lighthearted until near the end when Slate starts calling. It gets kind of creepy and desperate. It’s just suddenly: boom. A bank robber has your adoptive mother and father. And he wants money. Half a million dollars to be exact.
After all that craze is over, you find out that the Colonel has a story that he has forgotten and all that stuff which was pretty interesting to read about.
Overall, 4 out of 5.
